So, The Nostalgia Critic Is Back

Welcome Back, Sir

Well, it's nice to know Marobot's gonna have work again.
(oh yeah, spoiler warning for The Review Must Go On)

Yeah, Doug Walker has decided to bring back the Nostalgia Critic. Seems that feeling of being "done" with the character was a massive case of burnout. Given I've suffered from a creative drought over the last month, I can relate. But it's settled. Starting February 5th, NC will be back (on a bi-weekly schedule) with a review of The Odd Life of Timothy Green.

And I couldn't be happier.

Let's get this straight. I was warming up to the to the new Demo Reel series. I was liking the characters, the story and was finding it truly heartwarming at times. I'm actually gonna be sad to see the series go and I especially feel bad for Malcolm Ray and Rachel Tietz. They did spectacular work as Tacoma and Rebecca and it'll be a shame to see them go.

But from this death comes renewed life.  A passion has been reignited in Doug. And I'm always for a re-ignition of passion. Unless it's illegal, then I'm all for suppressing that passion. Suppress your sick passions. SUPPRESS! SUPPRESS!!!!!

Wait, what was I talking about? Oh yeah, Nostalgia Critic.

So the Nostalgia Critic is back. Good. Couldn't be more excited. Break a leg, Mr. Walker.

  1. I really couldn't hack Demo Reel. Not that I disliked any of the actors in it, it was just the writing, the tone - it was all really, really off. (I did like Malcolm, he had his moments more than anyone did.)

I love Doug's stuff, and like a lot of his fans, will support his work. Demo Reel, though, was a real fine straw.

It's a shame that he has taken that all on board in the way he is getting rid of it. I think I feel a little bit sorry for him in a way because he was trying to do something new, and people (for the most part) really hated it. It's weird saying that because I'm not a fan of Demo Reel, but I'd rather him try new stuff and learn from it then going back to old roots.

I am sure his new NC episodes will be awesome....fingers crossed anyway.

  2. I'm having mixed feelings about this, I wasn't really loving demo reel, but it could have gotten better over time. In my opinion the Nostalgia critic took quite a few episodes to really become great, and it could have been the same for Demo Reel if it had been given more of a chance. I also fear that Doug has just brought NC back to please the fans, and won't put as much energy into the new episodes as he did before.

Still, on the other hand I admit that I was seriously missing the critic, and perhaps Doug will find a way to top himself.
